Product 2: Mission to Mars: Jezero Crater Exploration INB
Students will complete 5 Missions on an interactive quest to search for evidence of life on Mars and the geologic history of the Jezero Crater region by NASA’s Perseverance Rover. This No-Prep Lesson includes complete Teacher Guide!
Jezero Crater Flyover
Students begin their exploration by taking an interactive journey by flying over the Jezero Crater region. Students will learn about past evidence of water, climate change on Mars, NASA’s plans for exploring for evidence of life on Mars, and the prime mission of Perseverance’s first 2 years.
Mission 1: Jezero Crater
Students will use NASA’s Interactive Perseverance Location Map to obtain measurements of Jezero Crater in an attempt to gain a better understanding of the scale and geologic history of the region. Students will use math skills to calculate the diameter of Jezero Crater in both metric and english standard units in a real world math problem simulation.
Mission 2: Perseverance Landing Site
Students will use NASA’s Interactive Perseverance Location Map to obtain measurements of Perseverance’s Landing Site in an attempt to gain a better understanding of the scale and geologic history of the region. Students will use math skills to calculate the diameter of Perseverance’s Landing Site in both metric and english standard units in a real world math problem simulation.
Mission 3: Belva Crater
Students will use NASA’s Interactive Perseverance Location Map to obtain measurements of Belva Crater in an attempt to gain a better understanding of the scale and geologic history of the region. Students will use math skills to calculate the diameter of Belva Crater in both metric and english standard units in a real world math problem simulation.
Mission 4: Evidence of Water
Students will apply their knowledge gained of the Jezero Crater Region to analyze evidence of water and make predictions on where life may have existed in the ancient past.
Mission 5: Geologic History of Jezero Crater Region
Students will use analytical and problem solving skills to re-create the geologic history of the Jezero Crater Region by matching geologic events to evidence.
Product 3: Mission to Mars: Perseverance Rover Tracking Journal INB
Students follow NASA’s Perseverance Rover as it explores Jezero Crater for evidence of past life on Mars.
Perseverance’s Scientific Instruments
Students take a tour of Perseverance and learn about the 7 scientific instruments onboard the rover.
Rover Tracking Journal
Students will be able to track exactly where Perseverance is at any given time and see where the rover has been. Students will track data as it is published by NASA scientists and update their own personal data journal with Perseverance’s location and other mission data.
